rekomuse replied to your post: opinion time, y’all I’ve seen such a wide variety of projects in various states of development on Kickstarter. It’s definitely a valid avenue for funding a photo project. Ultimately your promotion of the project will decide how much you raise. Go for it! I guess I should talk to some people who have used Kickstarter and see if I can figure out how best to get...

doug replied to your post: opinion time, y’all I’ve had a half dozen friends get their projects funded through Kickstarter. All the marketing of the thing more or less lies in your hands, and communicating your progress and intent seems to be key. There’s no risk in trying. That would prove an interesting challenge, since marketing and communication are my absolute weakest areas.

opinion time, y'all
Is Kickstarter a valid funding avenue for my photo project idea? I’ve thought of it a couple of times since formulating the general concept, but it seems so slight and personal compared to the really interesting stuff I see on there on the regular. Worth pursuing? Anyone have any experience with Kickstarter?

photo project idea
I find the concept and manifestation of scale fascinating. Anish Kapoor’s sculpture is arresting because of the way it overwhelms the spaces it occupies. Similarly, Edward Burtynsky’s photography is affective because of the way it elides or sharply emphasizes scale; the immensity of his canvases, and the concomitant immensity of his subjects, envelope the viewer in his images. ...

When I was in high school, I was a head-up-my-ass...
I was full of ideas and had very little actual knowledge to go with them. For my final project one year, I made a very silly, complicated sculpture out of some old TVs and a huge quantity of duct tape. It was a very satisfying sculpture, because part of the process involved smashing one of the TVs with a sledgehammer. They shatter like plate glass, did you know? I expected it to explode. The...

grabendolch: agovernmentman replied to your photoset: today’s bird, the gray catbird. This one was… Really digging this series, and the poses you’ve found/made are lovely and unusual. Thanks! Oh, and in regards to found vs made, I do make use of plenty of reference but I avoid outright copying… I realize you posted this reply ages ago, I just missed it at the time. Some say that privatization in this province has gone too far, well, we at the Rhinoceros Party of Alberta say that it hasn’t gone too far enough! Look at how successful it has been with privatized power generation! We will privatize everything, from the sidewalks and roads to your children’s education. We will also privatize your children.
