“I created a system of marketing compatible with American art,” Kinkade said to me recently. “I believe in ‘aspire to’ art. I want my work to be available but not common. I want it to be a dignified component of everyday life. It’s good to dream about things. It’s like dreaming of owning a Rolex; instead, you dream about owning a...

thank you mr. eno
earlyfrost: “When you listen to Miles Davis, how much of what you hear is music,  and how much is context? Context is everything that isn’t physically contained in the grooves of the record.  It includes your knowledge that everyone else says he’s great: that must modify the way you hear him. That he was a handsome and imposing man, a member of a romantic minority, that he played with Charlie...

avatar - counterpoints
canned: I saw Avatar last night. I was rather disappointed by the movie in a story telling sense. But I knew I was going to be disappointed. It’s a shame thats not the reason I, or other people really go to see any movie. It was very pretty. In the sense that a high fashion show is pretty. It’s not pretty in the way a film like Koyaanisqatsi is pretty. The digital IMAX and 3D format. I sat in...

Bike ride
canned: I really prefer riding my bike over other forms of transportation. That isn’t to say I can’t get more utility out of a car, but I enjoy the bike more (a different form of utility?) It’s easy to operate Quieter Open air and the pace you go at is much more physical. I like waving and saying hello to people. what about the brums (Bikes are fun, easy, and cheap. Cars are exciting.)
