Oh, and in regards to found vs made, I do make use of plenty of reference but I avoid outright copying…

I realize you posted this reply ages ago, I just missed it at the time. Thanks for addressing the found/made distinction. It’s something I’m struggling to move past in my own art; I have done a few realistic illustrations that I am proud of in their own right, but they are pretty much directly from photo reference. I find it frustrating because I feel as though I should be injecting more of myself into the work I do and not merely copying the skills of photographers. I guess it would be less an issue if I were going out and making all my references myself, but obviously I am not. Regardless, you’ve inspired me to work harder at synthesizing new work instead of replicating old.
