this is a really interesting depiction

it’s a lovely illustration; vibrant colours and hard edges and so on

it also employs the hypertrophied musculature generally used to depict male comic-book characters by some illustrators

the proportions are very similar to versions of Batman, Lobo, and Cable I’ve seen elsewhere

^Very interesting. Most of that bulk is probably her suit though, seeing as most people don’t draw Samus as extremely muscular when not suited up (which is totally unrealistic considering she spends a lot of time in space). They also tend to draw her with enormous boobs and in extremely sexualized positions which is not really canon and is really annoying and angering because that’s not what she’s characterized as etc. I just hate inaccurate portrayals of her in fanart because…yeah. Just search “Samus” on dA if you’re curious.

I also really love this image. It’s pretty excellent fanart as fanart goes.

I twigged to the exaggerated “musculature” of this version of her armour because it’s so exaggerated; the wasp-waist and tiny head, paired with the massive, massive shoulders (even by Varia Suit standards) and equally huge arms and thighs are all heavily male-coded

obviously this isn’t a natural human shape, especially for a normal woman

the blending of these visual codes is what’s really interesting about this image to me

re: sexualized depictions of Samus, I’d be lying if I said I’d never seen anything of that sort, and you’re right, it’s totally non-canonical

but fandoms do that

the critical thing, to my mind, is that Nintendo never has

even the kinda weird father/daughter thing in Fusion wasn’t sexualized overtly

I can’t speak to Other M, never having played it, but that’s Team Ninja and they do what they want, etc
